It refers to Supreme Court issuing notices to Delhi Government and others on banning plying of cycle-rickshaws in Chandni Chowk of

. Rickshaws were convenient, economical and pollution-free mode of conveyance in walled city of

Old Delhi

of which Chandni Chowk is the main link-road. Banning of rickshaws has caused great inconvenience especially to ladies and old persons. People have no convenient conveyance to reach to Old Delhi Railway Station from streets across Chandni Chowk. While rickshaw-pullers charged just rupees three per passenger from one end of Chandni Chowk to the other with just two passengers per rickshaw, buses and auto-rickshaws are now charging rupees five per passenger that too with buses crowded and auto-rickshaws packing four passengers. Need is to allow only new-designed cycle-rickshaws with proper display of MCD license so as to avoid crowding and traffic-jams due to unlicensed cycle-rickshaws. Authorities devise newer traffic-plans for Chandni Chowk without consulting residents there. It seems corruption in giving licenses to bus or installing and then pulling out pillars to divide slow and fast traffic is main reason for senseless change in traffic-plans for Chandni Chowk.











Newly introduced buses with just one door and high floor are always crowded at the entrance difficult to be used by ladies and senior citizens. Enquiry is necessary about the authorities having approved design of these buses which should have been of low-floor and open from sides like are used inside Pragati Maidaan for visitors.
